the four elements: new tintype brooch

Continuing with a small series of tintype jewelry pieces, the most recent one is The Four Elements, composed from this old photo of an unknown group of people. The photo was not in great shape so I didn’t feel too bad about cropping it and making the image more visually accessible by turning it into a wearable object. Who knows who these people are and what are their connections — family members, friends, colleagues? The brooch is made of sterling silver, 18k gold rivets, and the tintype, scored and scratched. I like the unknown narrative and mystery that surrounds these old images.
