Coming up this weekend and every first Saturday and Sunday of the month is the great antique market in Arezzo, a must for art/antique lovers with its medieval walls, Roman ruins, Renaissance architecture and Piero della Francesca murals in the church of San Francesco.
Taking place in Piazza Grande, Piazza San Francesco, and the Vasari Loggia, it spills into most streets in the historic center. This market is one of the largest in Italy with over 500 exhibitors and has been going strong since 1968.
While wandering through the picturesque streets of this small Tuscan town, you can find antiques and collectibles such as furniture, books, paintings, ceramics, scientific instruments, watches, jewelry, silverware, lace, art objects, glass, frames, and other random treasures.
Here are some recent flea market finds of my own. Look for some of these parts in new jewelry and art pieces coming soon!
Arezzo can be reached as quickly as 40 minutes by train from Florence. The center is only a 10 minute walk from the train station.
